Nissin Foods Invests €100M in New Factory to Meet Growing Demand in Hungary
Japanese instant noodle leader Nissin Foods is set to expand its European production capacity with a new factory in Kecskemét, Hungary. The Tokyo-based company, known for its iconic brands such as Smack and Soba, is investing approximately €100 million in this state-of-the-art facility, which will be built on a site of over 170,000 square meters. This marks a significant milestone following its first greenfield investment in Kecskemét in 2017.
Over the past few years, Nissin Foods’ Hungarian operations have experienced consistent growth, with investments of €12 million in 2021 and €45 million in 2022 to enhance capacity, improve efficiency, and expand their product range. However, as demand for Nissin Foods' products continues to rise across Europe, the current factory is nearing its production capacity, prompting the need for a new manufacturing unit. The new facility will also feature integrated warehousing and logistics solutions, further reinforcing Nissin Foods’ commitment to its European operations.
Nissin Foods will continue to work predominantly with Hungarian suppliers for the new plant, maintaining Hungary as its sole production base in Europe. This strategic move was facilitated by HIPA and is expected to create approximately 100 new jobs, adding to the 500 positions already established at its Kecskemét facility. Currently, the plant supplies products to 35 countries, with 90% of production earmarked for export.
Founded in 1948, Nissin Foods is a global powerhouse with around 16,500 employees and annual revenues nearing €4.5 billion. Its Hungarian subsidiary, Nissin Foods Kft., has been a cornerstone of its European presence since 2004. This latest expansion is set to further cement Nissin Foods’ role as a key player in the fast-moving consumer goods sector, driving innovation and meeting the escalating demand in the European market.
