Over 16 million tones of Plastic was consumed by the Plastic converting industry for 2009 in CEE this represents in the region of 22% of the overall European plastics use, 22% represents an increase of 2% from the comparable figures for 2007. On average the per capita consumption of Plastic with in CEE is about half of that used with in Western Europe. CeeIndustrial expects that the market share of the Plastics industry will in Central and Eastern Europe see a 1.5% increase in the amount of Plastics used with in CEE compared to Western Europe for 2010, this will mean Central Eastern Europe will be close to 23.5% of the Plastics market and Western Europe 77.5% of the total market with in Europe for the consumption of Plastics.

2009 CEE thermoplastics consumption in 2009 by country
Russia is the largest user of Plastics for 2009 but Poland is catching up, Russia had almost one third of the total Plastic used in 2007 and Poland 25%. From the table above Poland now has 25% of the total market share from the Central and Eastern European region. The volume of plastic converting in Russia was about 3 million tons in 2007 and 4788 tones for 2009 and Poland has gone from 1.9 million tons in 2007 to 4.1 million tons for 2009.
Czech Republic and Hungary is 3rd and 4th on the table above with a combined total of 15.75% share of Plastic used in 2009 this is a slight decrease from 16% in 2007.
In regards to per capita Plastic consumption with in the CEE region, 75 kg plastic consumption in Hungary, Czech and Slovenia. Poland and Slovakia have about 56% and Russia 48%. With the lower per capita consumption of plastics with in Central and Eastern Europe means there are excellent possibilities for future growth and development of the Plastic Industry across CEE.
