Tatarstan is the new home for Kastamonu’s second phase of MDF fibreboard production after the Turkish company recently completed the construction plans. Damir Akhmadullin, a representative of Kastamonu speaking at the Woodworking exhibition, said that 450,000 cubic metres of fibreboard would be produced each year. This is set to increase to a million once their new product line is fully launched.
Akhmadullin added “Commissioning work will soon be complete and production will start in early 2016. The launch of the second phase will allow us to produce another 450,000 cubic metres of MDF fibreboard per year in addition to the 575,000 cubic metres we currently produce.”
It has been confirmed that around a quarter of a million dollars has been invested in order for this project to come to fruition with a total of $600 million being invested in the Tatarstan project as a whole. Kastamonu has a long history in the industry after starting in 1969 and has since expanded to Romania, Bulgaria as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina. They currently turnover nearly $1.5 billion per year and are in the top 5 wood processing companies in Europe by producing over 4.5 million cubic metres per year.
