Towards the end of October, Latvijas Finieris opened a brand new impregnation plant after starting production in 2015. At a total cost of €10 million, production capacity is said to have doubled and can now process over 40 square metres of paper allowing for yearly revenues of €15 million. Just 12 people will be manning the process in three shifts and the end product will be either exported to Estonia where they have a new factory or it will be used in other factories around Latvia.
Thanks to the investment, the line uses some of the newest equipment around in order to meet energy efficiency targets as well as their own efficiency target. Compared to their previous process, this new impregnation line is set to save 20% in energy efficiency. Now, there are no processed gases that reach the atmosphere. Instead, it will be burned within the factory in a heat exchanger and re-used for paper drying.
Over the years, the plant will become known for innovative engineering ideas and wooden load-bearing structures are currently supporting around three thousand square metres of space. Furthermore, laminated wood panels have been used for the roof which were specially delivered from Finland. Now that the line has been implemented, the company will receive tax credits since the project was as a result of a public investment project. If rumours are to be believed, the support could be worth around €1 million to the company.
