Rehau Automotive Kft., a Swiss maker of polymer products with its origins from Germany will build a EUR 150 million car parts plant in Újhartyán located 47km southeast of Budapest. This plan is aimed at meeting the orders for Daimler’s expanding base in Kecskemét located 44 km down the M5 motorway. These plans were confirmed by the companies involved and the government officials at a press conference in Budapest.
The manufacturing processes in the plant are designed to produce bumpers, and other exterior components, as stated by Markus Grundmann, the head of Rehau’s automotive division. Construction of the 63,000 square meter plant will begin in March, this year, and the project is expected to be concluded in April next year, he added.
The government aims to support the greenfield movement with a HUF 7.1 billion grant according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó; he also stated that the investment is expected to create 727 jobs. This will be the third largest investment of this kind under the current government since 2014. It is also the tenth largest investment in terms of value, according to the Minister.
