Bunzl plc, an expert in international distribution and services, has today announced its latest strategic moves: the signing of an agreement to acquire a company in Poland and the recent acquisition of a business in the Netherlands. The Polish acquisition marks Bunzl's debut in the country, expanding the Group's global footprint to 32 countries.

In a notable development in July, Bunzl agreed to acquire Safety First, a leading distributor of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in Poland, serving various markets. This marks Bunzl's initial venture into Poland, a significant step in the company's expansion strategy. Safety First reported a revenue of PLN 121 million (around £22 million) in 2022. The finalization of this acquisition is pending regulatory approval.

Additionally, in the same month, Bunzl completed the acquisition of EcoTools.nl, a Dutch company specializing in online distribution of tool accessories and industrial consumables throughout the Benelux region. EcoTools.nl, a rapidly growing business, generated revenues of EUR 20 million (approximately £17 million) in 2022, with notably high profit margins. This acquisition enhances Bunzl’s portfolio in the rapidly evolving sector of specialist online distribution.

Frank van Zanten, Bunzl’s Chief Executive Officer, commented on the acquisitions: “Today’s announcement of adding two more businesses to the Bunzl family is thrilling, bringing our total to twelve acquisitions for the year. The entry into Poland with Safety First is particularly exciting, as it extends our operational reach to 32 countries. EcoTools, with its rapid growth in the online distribution space, aligns well with our existing digital-focused businesses, further amplifying our digital expertise.
