The new Kona, fully-electric car is set to be produced in the Czech Republic, Hyundai have announced. The South Korean company anticipate that production will start in the factory from March, increasing the availability of this popular vehicle to European customers.
To date the Kona Electric has enjoyed worldwide exports but it is the Czech facility that is the clear favourite when it comes to eco-friendly car production. Hyundai have already announced that production of the Tucson Hybrid and Tucson PHEV will be produced at their Czech factory.
At the same time as Czech production starts the company will be increasing the supply of the Kona electric from it’s South Korean facility in Ulsan. Customers across Europe can expect much reduced delivery times.
The popularity of the Kona Electric has been steadily increasing since it hit the market back in 2018. In 2020 it is anticipated that around 80,000 of these eco-friendly vehicles will be hitting the European market. This includes the Kona Electric, IONIQ Electric and the NEXO fuel cell car. Hyundai is hoping that this will make it the biggest producer of zero-emissions cars across Europe this year.
Dong Woo Choi ,Hyundai Motor Europe President and CEO, has said that this is a direct response to the growing demand for the company’s electric vehicles. As more and more people look at making changes in their carbon footprint it is likely that the growth in electric vehicles will continue apace.
